History

“The music remains, even if time passes.”

John Williams – composer, conductor and pianist

Year 1934 – Silver wedding anniversary of founding conductor Leopold Mader

Foundation

On November 25, 1932, Peter Mitterrutzner, a “Kerscher” farmer in Gereuth, founded the Peter Mayr Pfeffersberg music band with bandmaster Leopold Mader from Ridnaun.

As a result of the Second World War and emigration (option), the chapel had to be disbanded in the summer of 1939.

However, thanks to the efforts of chairman Peter Mitterrutzner, the band was reunited as early as 1945. Josef Larcher, a “Weiß” farmer in Pairdorf, became the band’s musical director; he conducted his first concert after the Corpus Christi procession on September 8, 1945 in Tils.

Additional name “Peter Mayr”

The band took on the additional name “Peter Mayr” in 1966, along with the new costume. (Peter Mayr, a companion of Andreas Hofer and a commander of the Tyroleans against Napoleon, was a member of the Mahr at the time of the uprisings).

Today, the Peter Mayr Pfeffersberg Band is one of the most outstanding bands in South Tyrol. Since 1958, the “Pfeffersberger” have repeatedly taken part in competitions at district and regional music festivals at home and abroad – there have been around 20 to date. Initially they competed in the intermediate level, later in the upper level and finally in the highest level, always achieving excellent results.

In February 1963, Andreas Reifer from Gereuth took over the position of bandmaster. While the “Pfeffersberger” had previously appeared as a modest village band, the new conductor succeeded in raising the band to a high level over time thanks to his musical talent, diligence and tireless commitment.

Year 1998 – Spring concert at Haus Voitsberg in Vahrn

From 2008 to 2013, Kapellmeister Josef Feichter was the band’s musical director, while in 2014 and 2015 this was in the hands of Kapellmeister Eduard Gamper.

Since 2016, the Peter Mayr Pfeffersberg band has been led by bandmaster Bernhard Reifer. Reifer, born in 1973, comes from the band’s own ranks and was active as a percussionist for decades.
